Sights & Sounds from the Zocalo: Oaxaca, Mexico

In April, 2011 we returned to Oaxaca, Mexico. In 2010 we had spent about 4 months in Mexico and almost three of those were in the city of Oaxaca, south west of Mexico city and in the state of Oaxaca.

A main gathering point and perfect place to people watch is the town square or 'Zocalo'. Here's a bit of what it's like on almost any given day. Enjoy the video.

Waterfowl Lake, Banff

The other stop happened unexpectedly in Banff National Park. The beauty of the scenery whizzing by us caused a slamming of brakes and a pulling off the road to bask in the peaceful, serene atmosphere. We had stumbled upon Waterfowl Lake an unique aqua that is clear, deep and still. Although I'd like to say we were the only travelers to discover this treasure that wasn't so. But we did find a relatively secluded portion that offered a 'rock for settin'. We basked in hot sun and perfect view. The rest was a tonic that rejuvenated our tired bodies and kept us energized for the rest of the long drive.

Columbia Icefield: Athabasca Glacier

We just got back from a bit of a road trip through B.C. and Alberta. We saw majestic mountains, trees, lakes and waterfalls and spent stopped at several places to absorb the full impact. Two of these were in Canadian National Parks, both located in Alberta.

Athabasca Glacier, Jasper National Park, AB
The Columbia Icefield is in the southern part of Jasper National Park. It feeds 8 glaciers and, thanks to one of several 'snowcoaches' we got to spend time on the surface of one - the Athabasca Glacier. Blue ice, puddles and mill wells were just some of the sights we experienced. And we got to drink from the clear, pure and very cold glacial waters. Although the day was hot on land it was pretty chilly on the ice in spite of the strong sun.
