Columbia Icefield: Athabasca Glacier

We just got back from a bit of a road trip through B.C. and Alberta. We saw majestic mountains, trees, lakes and waterfalls and spent stopped at several places to absorb the full impact. Two of these were in Canadian National Parks, both located in Alberta.

The Columbia Icefield is in the southern part of Jasper National Park. It feeds 8 glaciers and, thanks to one of several 'snowcoaches' we got to spend time on the surface of one - the Athabasca Glacier. Blue ice, puddles and mill wells were just some of the sights we experienced. And we got to drink from the clear, pure and very cold glacial waters. Although the day was hot on land it was pretty chilly on the ice in spite of the strong sun.
